GROTON, Conn. - With winter here, the Joint Personal Property Shipping Office (JPPSO) would like to reiterate some key moving tips to help make your move a success. All personnel moving during the winter months should be aware snow and sleet may delay pickup and delivery of your household goods.

JPPSO cannot control the weather so to help minimize an inconvenience should a storm occur, plan an extra day or two between your scheduled pickup and departure date. Monitor the weather once it gets closer and maintain constant communication with your move coordinator. Leave your utilities connected until all your property has been picked up. Being flexible is the key.

Customer requirements during winter months;

• Ensure your driveway, walkways and door steps are clear of snow and or ice, if not your move will be delayed until you ensure a safe working environment for the crew. This includes any pickups at other locations such as apartment complexes, offices and storage units.

• Ensure any outdoor items, i.e. play equipment or lawn furniture, have been disassembled, free of snow and or ice and are dry.

• Be flexible during transit time, there may be weather delays through the route which may cause your property to arrive late.

• Keep the JPPSO's phone number on hand. In case of problems, call the office immediately at 800-235-7776 (7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time). For emergencies after hours, call (978) 987-6546.

Additionally, you can locate numerous resources that may assist you throughout your move via the website, http://www.move.mil. You are encouraged to take a minute and review this valuable resource.

Lastly, please take the time to complete the mandatory Customer Satisfaction Survey that will be sent to you within seven days of the completion of your move. Your survey data provides valuable feedback to the movers so they can evaluate and enhance their performance. Your feedback will improve the household shipping experience for the entire Military/DOD community.
