GROTON, Conn. - The Commissary at Naval Submarine Base New London (SUBASE) resumed normal operations, Oct. 17, after a cautionary closing following a positive COVID-19 test for a contracted after-hours stocker.

The store underwent an extensive sorting and removal of many products and items; a deep cleaning by a professionally contracted company and members of Navy Team New London; and a marathon re-stocking effort.

“Those who helped this Commissary re-open have my sincere thanks,” said Capt. Todd Moore, SUBASE Commanding Officer. “It has been a huge effort.

The Commissary has and continues to follow procedures to help protect its patrons, including: health screening of staff, wearing of facial coverings, frequent sanitizing of high-traffic areas, spacing in checkout lanes, and encouraging physical distancing.

“As always, virus mitigation measures will be in place, and I cannot overemphasize the importance of following established requirements for facial coverings; physical distancing; and self-monitoring,” said Moore.
