FRA announces upcoming events
GROTON, Conn. – The Fleet Reserve Association Branch and Unit 20 will hold their regular monthly meetings at 6 p.m., June 20, at the Branch Home, 242 Thames St. in Groton. Unit 20 will meet in the Club area and Branch 20 will meet on the second deck. All members in good standing are encouraged to attend these meetings. Membership in the FRA is open to all active duty, retired, and veterans of the Sea Services, i.e., the Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard, who have at least one day of enlisted service. Membership in the FRA Auxiliary, or Unit, is open to all spouses, children and stepchildren over age 16, parents, and grandparents of FRA members in good standing. Due to an incomplete slate of officers at the May meeting, nominations for the 2019-2020 year will be closed at the June meeting following nominations from the floor and elections will then be conducted. All offices are open for nomination; President and Vice President are one-year terms and Secretary and Treasurer are two-year terms. Also to be elected are the Branch Board of Directors and the Board of Governors, all one-year terms.
Following the Branch meeting and installation of officers, the Widow’s Medallion Ceremony will be conducted. All shipmates and Auxiliary members are encouraged to stay for this meaningful ceremony.
The 5th Annual Veterans and Family Picnic hosted by Branch 20 and SubVets at the Groton Elks Lodge, 700 Shennecossett Road, will take place June 22 at 1 p.m. All active duty, reservists, veterans, retired military and their families are invited to this event. Tickets are available for purchase at Club 20, SubVets, and Groton Elks, or at the door on the day of the event. Ticket prices are $15 for single, $20 for couple, and $25 for family. There is a $5 discount for all active duty and family of deployed members. Cornhole tournament begins at 2:30 p.m.
Branch 20 is seeking participants to march in Groton’s 4th of July Parade and for those who cannot march, vehicles with riders. A sign-up sheet is posted in Club 20.
