MYSTIC, Conn. - The Connecticut Chapter of the Naval Academy Alumni Association will host the Naval Academy’s Off-shore Sail Training Squadron with five Navy-44 sailboats and a contingent of 50 midshipmen and coaches at Mystic Seaport from July 12 to 15.

They are currently looking for Navy families and friends in the Southeastern Connecticut area who can act as host families for the midshipmen. If a family can help by providing housing for a midshipman or coach, we would like them to contact Tom Hogsten at (860) 287-9950, or thogsten@aol.com, as soon as possible.

The boats will be open for visits while at the Seaport. This is a great opportunity for any young men or women interested in attending the Academy to meet a midshipman and learn first-hand about their summer training activities.

The Chapter also will host a picnic dinner starting at 4 p.m., July 14 for midshipmen, coaches, host families, and Navy personnel at Admiral Fife Park in Stonington. The menu includes grilled hamburgers, grilled hot dogs, BBQ pork, BBQ chicken, and BBQ ribs with the usual picnic sides and watermelon for dessert. The cost is $27 per person. RSVP with Tom Hogsten at (860) 287-9950, or thogsten@aol.com.
