WNBA players visit SUBASE, meet with Sailors

GROTON, Conn. – The professional women’s basketball team The Connecticut Sun paid a visit to Naval Submarine Base (SUBASE) New London to meet with Sailors and promote their upcoming home opener, May 20. Members of the team set up a table at Cross Hall Galley onboard SUBASE where they signed t-shirts, posed for photos with Sailors and gave out tickets. The team mascot, Blaze, ran up and down the lines interacting with Sailors and clowning around for diners eating their lunch. “We’re with the Connecticut Sun, the WNBA team based out of Mohegan Sun,” said Jennifer Hildebrand, Connecticut Sun community relations manager. “Our opener is on Saturday, May 25, so we are here to promote our home opener and give Sailors an opportunity to meet the team. It’s really nice for us to be able to give back to our local community. The submarine base is a huge part of the local area and to be able to interact with the local people who are helping our country and also our country is really important to us.”
