Maryland turns 28, swaps crews at sea

Commander, Submarine Forces highlighted their deterrence mission and the ballistic-missile submarine USS Maryland’s (SSBN 738) 28th commissioning anniversary, June 13. USS Maryland recently conducted a full at-sea crew exchange, swapping out crews while keeping the submarine at sea and mission capable. The at-sea crew exchange allowed the crews to maintain a secure “bubble” from possible COVID-19 exposure and continue the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD)’s number one mission of strategic deterrence.
