GROTON, Conn. - A special donor has generously made the following two programs free to the Naval Submarine Base (SUBASE) New London military community, through CT Humanities. All books are free to participating children! The SUBASE Library has 25 copies of each book.

K is for Kindness

What does it take to make a new ...friend? How important is kindness in keeping a friend? These four books explore friendship. Let’s see how we make friendship work! Pick up your free book at SUBASE Library, read, then come by the library. This group is for children in grades 1-3, from 4 to 5 p.m. on the following dates:

Oct. 1: “Frog and Toad are Friends,” by Arnold Lobel

Oct. 8: “Enemy Pie,” by Derek Munson

Oct. 15: “Those Shoes,” by Maribeth Boelts

Oct. 22: “Stand Tall, Molly Lou Melon,” by Patty Lovell

Books will be available for pick up at the Library, upon sign up for the discussion group!

Choosing Kindness

Characters in these books face challenges that set them apart from their classmates. They find that kindness is key to how others treat them, and how they view themselves. Facilitated by Jeanne Donato, Educator. Pick up your free book at SUBASE Library, read, then come by the library. This program is for children in grades 3-5 and takes place from 4 to 5 p.m. on the following dates:

Nov. 18: “One for the Murphys,” by Lynda Mullaly Hunt
