Marigolds for Mom
Need a little gift for Mom or any other special person? Children are invited to the Bill Memorial Library, May 11 between noon and 2 p.m., to decorate a clay pot and fill it with a beautiful plant to take home. All ages are welcome, but younger children will need an adult to help them. Register by calling the library at (860) 445-0392 or stopping by the front desk. This program is free and open to the public.
A Walk in the Woods
On May 18, from 9 to 10 a.m., the Bill Memorial Library will host A Walk in the Woods: A Visual Guide to Groton’s Local Hiking Trails presented by outdoor enthusiast Joellen Anderson. Discover where our many state, town and local land trust trailed properties are located and how to select a trail that is best suited to you and your family. Learn about trail safety and preparedness and explore trails that the whole family can enjoy. The presentation will include photographs of several local trailed open space treasures, taken by both Joellen and local photographer Bill Pratt.
This program is a great way to prepare for Connecticut Trails Day, taking place this year June 1 and 2. Families are especially encouraged to take their kids outside for a fun day of hiking and outdoor fun. More information about Connecticut Trails Day is found at https://www.ctwoodlands.org/CFPA-events/2019-connecticut-trails-day.
Anderson is a longtime Groton resident whose interests lie in outside trail and property stewardship. She is a past member of the Avalonia Land Conservancy Board of Directors, past Groton Town Committee chair for Avalonia, and an active member of the Appalachian Mountain Club.
Join us for coffee, refreshments and conversation at this informal event. Registration is not required.
