NEW LONDON, Conn. - The Coast Guard Academy (CGA) is looking for sponsor families for the Class of 2023 cadets.

During the cadets' first year at CGA, they will experience a drastic transition from a civilian to a military way of life. Some cadets adjust well, while others have a more difficult time. The Sponsor Program provides cadets with families who can help provide some relief, advice, and guidance. It is also an important means of support, friendship, and learning beyond the Academy environment, and helps to make the cadets' integration into the military community easier and more effective.

To be eligible for the Sponsor Program, applicants, both military and civilian, must be at least 28 years old and live within 30 miles of the Coast Guard Academy (exceptions will be considered on a case by case basis).

Active duty military applicants must meet one of the following criteria:

• Rank/Rate of E7/CPO or O3/LT and above

• Rank/Rate of O1/ENS or O2/LTJG that are 28 years of age and above.

All potential sponsors will be required to undergo a background security check and will provide two references with their application. Applications are due by June 30.

If you are interested in becoming a Sponsor family or have any questions about the program, go online www.uscga.edu/sponsorfamilyprogram. You can also fill out the online application form at www.uscga.edu/cadetsponsor.
